Adm. John Bulkeley inspecting USS Ranger CV-61, 1975

Vice Admiral John Bulkeley aboard USS Ranger CV-61 in Alameda, California, 1975.  He was awarded the Medal of  Honor in WWII and was the skipper of the PT boat that evacuated General Douglas MacArthur from Corregidor in the Philippines.

The Admiral made the decision if your ship was ready to go to sea.  He was tough, but a pleasure to work with.  A true leader.

Medal of Honor

A side note:  my father, John L. Nicholson, was a chauffeur for General Douglas MacArthur when he had the Rainbow Division in France in 1918.  A small world!
